When visiting a company that first engaged us to assist in the implementation of an integrated ISO9001 Quality, ISO14001 Environmental and OHSAS18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System in 2009 a few days ago we were reminded of how people are often sceptical of the benefits that a management system can bring.
Originally this client implemented the system because it was a requirement of tender opportunities and not having certification was causing the company to miss out on some of the lucrative jobs.
Now, four years on, we asked if our client had seen the benefit of the system. He responded straight away to say that there were now "fewer complaints" and "things just seemed to run more smoothly." The management team have gone from being sceptics to understanding the value that a properly implemented management system can bring, and are now advocates of the system within their own business.
