Mango isn’t just in the cocktails in Benidorm…

Mateo poured the cocktail into the young woman’s glass.

“This is my speciality” he said.

His boss at the Solana Hotel, Benidorm, Joyce Templeton-Savage, walked up to the bar and tutted.

“The new owners will be clamping down on that sort of thing, Mateo,” she said.

“What sort of thing?” Mateo asked.

“Flirting with guests,” Joyce replied.

Mateo laughed: “Joyce, that was not flirting.”

Mateo took her hand, kissed it, and winked at her.

“This is flirting!”

Joyce pulled her hand away and handed Mateo a folder.

“Orders of the new owners. We’re having the same training as their UK hotels on a new law coming into force in Britain,” she said.

“It’s called Martyn’s Law and it’s aimed at helping to combat the risks from terror attacks. It’s named after Martyn Hett who died in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing and it affects hotels and holiday resorts.

“The owners want staff to be able to work at all the hotels, so we’re doing the same things as the Solana’s sister hotels in Bournemouth and Scarborough.”

Mateo shivered.

“They are NOT going to send me to Scarborough. I’ll freeze to death!”

Joyce laughed.

“No, they’ll be sending me, if they send anyone. As the new General Manager.

“The point is, we at the Solana have to undertake a risk assessment, make sure staff are properly trained in security, and ensure we have good communication if anything does go wrong.”

Mateo nodded.

“Sounds sensible. But a lot of work, no?”

Joyce sighed.

“More work, but the company has hired consultants at Penarth Management to help us. They’ll be arriving next week, so make them feel welcome!”

Mateo smiled.

“Of course!”

Joyce shook her head.

“No, Mateo, not like that! They’re here to help us with Mango.”

Mateo shrugged.

“I don’t need any help with mangoes. I use them in cocktails all the time…”

Joyce shook her head.

“No, Mateo, the online compliance software called Mango. It will keep all our records in the cloud and help us keep the hotel free of piles of paperwork.

“I’ll also be able to access it wherever there’s an internet connection.”

Mateo nodded.

“This will help us with lots of records, from food safety certificates to boiler safety checks. That’s useful!”

Joyce laughed: “It certainly is, Mateo! Now be a useful lad and set up the room for tonight’s karaoke competition.

“I hear Madge Harvey is threatening to murder Dolly Parton’s Jolene…”

They both winced.
