Mango is To The Manor Born!

Audrey sighed and looked out of the window  over the rolling fields of the Grantleigh Estate.

“Richard, we’ve been married long enough for me to know that there’s something on your mind,” she said.

‘Richard DeVere, you’re up to something,” she thought.

She smiled at him and picked up her cup of morning coffee.

“The coffee hasn’t been the same since Brabinger left us, has it?” she asked.

Richard shook his head.

“No, it hasn’t. He is sorely missed.”

Audrey nodded.

“Out with it,” she said.

Richard smiled a sheepish smile. How could he imagine that he’d keep anything from her?

“It’s a new law coming into force soon,” he said.

“Supermarket chains like Cavendish Foods will have to make several changes to ensure the public are protected in our premises and that terrorists don’t tamper with our products.”

Audrey sipped her coffee.

“Worried?,” she asked.

‘The last time you had business problems, you sold the manor back to me,’ she thought.

Richard could almost read her mind.

“It won’t affect Grantleigh. We’re working with specialist advisers at Penarth Management to get ready for the introduction of Martyn’s Law.

“They’ve already helped us with healthy and safety and food safety, so it made sense to call them in.

“The new legislation is named after Martyn Hett, who died in the Manchester Arena terrorist attack in 2017.

“We’ll have to ensure we have detailed risk assessments and plans, properly trained staff, and excellent communication if something does happen.”

Audrey nodded.

“One must do one’s bit,” she said.

“Lots of extra paperwork?”

Richard smiled.

“Mango,” he said.

Audrey looked surprised.

“I know you sell a wide range of fruits and vegetables, but…”

Richard shook his head.

“Online compliance software called Mango keeping all our documents in the cloud. We’ve used it for a few years now to manage our food safety processes. It helped to get us the ISO 22000 for food safety management and it helped us to get our royal warrant.”

Audrey smiled.

“You’re still a grocer at heart, Richard!”

He shook his head.

“Not for much longer. I’m going to retire at the end of this financial year…”

Audrey laughed.

“You have said that several times before, Richard. I’ll believe you when I see you on the golf course and not in your office!”

Richard raised up his coffee cup.

“To Mango and being able to hand everything over to the new CEO in the cloud!”
