Will Mango help Derry Girls’ Sister Michael?

Sister Michael winced as she saw Jenny Joyce appear in her doorway.

“Yes, Jenny, what can I do for you?” she asked wearily.

“It’s what I can do for YOU, Sister…” Jenny replied with an unsettling grin that made Sister Michael’s blood chill slightly.

“Now, what could I be needing from you, Jenny?” she asked.

Jenny grinned her unsettling grin again and Sister Michael said: “Stop that now, Jenny. It’s not natural…”

Jenny shrugged: “Well, I know the school has to get ready for the new Martyn’s Law coming in this year, and my dad gave me a great idea. His college is dealing with Penarth Management to help them get up to speed and he thought you might like to make contact with them for Our Lady Immaculate College.”

Jenny held out a business card.

Sister Michael sighed and thought: “Just two more years to retirement…two more years of Jenny Joyce as my school secretary…”

She took the business card and said: “Thank you, Jenny.”

Jenny went on: “The new law is all about protecting the public from attacks, so there’ll be the need for detailed risk assessments, communication plans, and good staff training. We’ll all need to do our bit, won’t we?”

Sister Michael nodded: “We will…though no doubt there’ll be a mountain of new paperwork for you to deal with, Jenny. That should keep you busy. I won’t see you from one week to the next!”

Jenny smiled again and shook her head: “No, we can get Mango…”

Sister Michael sighed: “OK, I’ll play. How will a tropical fruit help us then Jenny?”

Jenny giggled: “No Mango the online compliance software. I’ll be able to access it wherever there’s an internet connection and all our documents will be stored in the cloud. It’ll save so much time that I’ll be able to attend all the school assemblies and parents’ evenings…”

Sister Michael coughed: “Well that’ll be grand, Jenny, won’t it? We’ll have to look into that…”

As Jenny left and closed the door behind her, Sister Michael logged onto the local authority intranet and searched for “early retirement”…
