The sun glinted off the gold metal head of C-3PO, forcing General Leia to shield her eyes.
“I think we need to change the colour of these units to something less reflective. We need to campaign to make that another New Republic directive,” she told her assistant.
He nodded and tapped her instructions into his hand-held computer.
Leia went on: “There are lots of rules and regulations we need to change now that the Empire is gone. We need to ask the senate to ban force choking without a licence, to outlaw speeder races except for in safe, designated areas, and we need to start an overhaul of our data protection regulations.”
The assistant tapped faster. Leia continued: “The Emperor was playing fast and loose with our sensitive personal data. It seems like the proper data protection training just wasn’t in place.
“Then, there was the woeful lack of public protection legislation that allowed the Ghorman Massacre to take place.”
C-3PO waved his arms: “Wouldn’t it be wonderful, General, if there was a compliance system where all an organisation’s records could be held digitally? Even better if it was easily accessible from anywhere in the galaxy!”
Leia sighed: “Maybe a long time in the future in a galaxy far, far away. It would definitely be the place for all the staff training records, compliance certifications, risk assessments…”
R2-D2 chirped.
“What’s that, R2? What would we call it?” asked C-3PO.
Leia laughed and looked at her fruit bowl: “How about Mango? Everyone loves that!”
The sliding doors opened and Hannah Solo walked in.
“Tell me you’re not still working!” he said.
“Your brother’s waiting for us to see his new bantha herd imported from Tatooine. Chewy’s already threatening to release them into the wild, he thinks every being should run free. We’d better get there quickly to persuade him it’s a bad idea.”
Leia sighed: “No point in releasing them. Luke would just use the Force to find them all and round them up, like some Jedi shepherd dog!”
Solo laughed: “I know.”
