How Miranda met Mango: a retail romantic comedy

How Miranda met Mango: a retail romantic comedy

Miranda stumbled through the front door of her joke shop, pulled herself up and grinned at Stevie.

“Oops! Nearly fell into the whoopie cushions!”

Stevie smiled back, grabbed her cardboard cutout of Heather Small, and started to sing…

“What have you done today, to make you feel prooooooud?”

Miranda said: “Good morning, then?”

Stevie nodded: “Sold 25 light-up Santas to Mr Brown, the manager of the local care home.”

Miranda frowned: “Really? Does he know they also make ‘raspberry’ noises…it’s not just a light show?”

Stevie nodded: “Goes down a storm with the residents, he said. They love it.”

Miranda shrugged.

“Black Friday is almost upon us, so get ready for the seasonal rush. We need to be pushing the treetop fairies that laugh like Sid James and the reindeer droppings chocolates.”

Stevie sighed: “It’s the most magical time of the year…except for getting all the paperwork in order. Insurance certificates, documents for the boiler, documents on health and safety and environmental regulations compliance, first aid training certificates…”

Miranda polished her nails and beamed: “Proud of that one!”

Stevie continued: “Now you’re opening a joke shop chain and the warehouse, things are bound to get even busier.”

“Yes,” Miranda replied. “And Gary’s opening his second and third restaurants, all the paperwork is very tough for him too.

“He’s been talking to experts at Penarth Management and they’ve recommended some online compliance software. It stores all the documents in the cloud, so they’re available at the touch of a button wherever there’s an internet connection.”

Stevie raised her eyebrows: “Listen to you! Gary’s finally made a businesswoman of you!

“What’s this software called?”

Miranda replied: “Mango…”

Stevie sighed: “You’ll be drawing a face on it and calling it a fruit friend, won’t you?”

Miranda smiled, reached into her bag, and pulled out a mango with a pair of googly eyes stuck on it.

“Might be…” she said.
