How Green Wing turned Mango to help hospital safety

ree

The door to the Chief Executive’s office flew open and Harriet Schulenburg fell into the room clutching a large bag.

She tottered to the chair and sat down, dropping the bag on the floor. A small xylophone and a chewed dog bone fell out.

She pushed them back in quickly, muttering: “Blinking grandchildren…”

She opened her laptop and the Teams call tone started buzzing.

She sighed and clicked on the accept call button. Sue White appeared on screen.

“Morning, Harriet, do I look like a mug? Have I got a handle?”

Harriet sighed again: “More of a teacup, I think…Would you mind meandering your way to the point, Sue?”

Sue rolled her eyes: “This health and safety review. Why’s it landed on my desk? I’m an HR professional not an HS consultant!”

Harriet clenched her jaw and slapped on a smile: “Because health and safety is not just for patients at East Hampton Hospital Trust, it’s also for staff. Your purview, I believe.”

Sue groaned: “I’m just imagining all the extra paperwork and the massive fire risk that will be. Not to mention we’re reviewing our food safety compliance…”

Harriet jumped in: “Yes, well, Guy Secretan and Mac Macartney did use the kitchen to roast themselves some roadkill last week. Seems less than hygienic…”

Sue went on: “…And we have the implementation of Martyn’s Law to deal with. All the planning needed, and staff will need the correct training…”

Harriet nodded: “Precisely! All of which leads me to one thing - Mango.”

Sue looked lost for words. Then, she said: “You’re either having some kind of episode or you’ve relapsed into your cocktail addiction. Which is it?”

Harriet glared: “I haven’t had a pina colada for 13 years, and well you know it. I hope we don’t have to have the conversation about the restraining order Mac took out against you.”

Sue sniffed: “That elapsed four years ago. I’m allowed within 100 yards of him now provided I’m not carrying pheromones.”

Harriet sighed and went on: “Mango is online compliance software recommended to us by our consultants at Penarth Management. It will help us manage our health and safety compliance, help us comply with Martyn’s Law, and help us stay on the right side of food safety legislation.

“We can access it anywhere there’s an internet connection. No piles of paperwork.”

Sue shrugged: “This is still adding to my stress levels. My fidget spinner has spun off!”

Harriet smiled sweetly: “I’ll paraphrase you, Sue.

“You say you're stressed about the health and safety review. Well, it seems to me if you stopped being stressed things would be better for you.”

She snapped the laptop shut, pulled out a flask from her bag, opened it, and poured the liquid into the cup.

“Milk…oh no…the nursery got the espresso flask!”

She grabbed her coat and ran out of the room…
