Marilyn positively skipped into the lounge and handed Lily Munster the local paper.
“They’re re-opening Mockingbird Heights Historic Mansion as a visitor attraction. Did you know that Edgar Allan Poe is rumoured to have stayed there once? I’ve always wanted to see inside it. It looks so old, and interesting, and…” she said excitedly…
“Wonderfully ghoulish!” Lily said, completing her sentence.
Marilyn nodded and smiled.
Lily gazed at her over the top of the newspaper: “You know who’s bought it, don’t you?”
Marilyn shook her head.
“Mr Gateman!” Lily exclaimed.
Fred Munster walked into the room taking off his hat.
“What about my boss at the funeral parlour?” he asked.
Lily showed him the newspaper article.
He nodded: “Oh, yes, Marilyn, the new owner is Gateman Enterprises Inc. Mr Gateman says he wants to diversify because, after all, you can only make so much money in the funeral business without…breaking the law to drum up trade!”
Fred and Lily laughed heartily while Marilyn looked confused.
Fred went on: “There’s a lot to do to get ready for opening. There are so many health and safety regulations, fire safety laws, and public safety rules to follow.
“We have to get all our paperwork in place and submit it to Mockingbird Heights Municipality for approval. We’ve all been pitching in to help. I’m elbow deep in forms and letters!”
Eddie arrived and listened to his father. He shrugged: “You need Mango.”
Fred tutted: “I had some pineapple juice this morning. I had my vitamin C for the day.”
Eddie snorted: “No, Dad, the online compliance software system Mango. It allows you to store all your documents in the cloud and keeps everything in one place. No more rifling through papers.
“Plus, you can access it wherever there’s an internet connection.”
They looked at him strangely. Fred said: “Didn’t understand a word of that gibberish, Eddie. Where have you been to learn that?”
Grandpa appeared: “Just a little haunt to the 21st Century in my time machine, Fred. We’ll have a talk about spoilers, Eddie!”
Grandpa and Eddie left the room.
Fred shrugged and continued reading the newspaper.
Lily looked up from her sewing and asked: “What’s the internet?”
Fred shrugged again.
