Management Systems Training

The course will be run for one day out of the business each month for six months. Small amounts of work will be set for completion in each session.

The courses are accredited by LANTRA Awards. Successful delegates will receive a LANTRA Awards certificate for each completed unit.

The series of workshops will benefit both the individual learners, who will gain nationally recognised credits from accredited training courses, and also the business as such systems will help to:

  • Increase operational efficiency

  • Reduce costs (which, according to research, is likely to be £16 for every £1 invested in quality)

  • Increase the likelihood of success when tendering for work

  • The cost of the training is also significantly lower than the traditional consultancy route for this type of system. 

Workshop 1:

Developing Organisational Policies

The purpose of this unit is to enable learners to identify and create the policy documents required for their organisation to ensure that it achieves quality standards.

  • Explain the purpose of policies in an organisation

  • Differentiate between policies and procedures

  • Explain how policies are used to set and maintain organisational standards 

  • Explain the role and function of key organisational policies 

  • Identify a key policy development need for an organisation

  • Identify the standards that the organisation will meet through the policy

  • Create a policy document for an organisation

  • Explain the importance of having senior management approval for the policy 

  • Create an outline plan for the implementation of a policy

  • Explain the importance of reviewing organisational policies

Environmental Aspects of Organisational Activity 

Workshop 2a:

The purpose of this unit is to enable learners to identify the impact an organisation’s activities can have on the environment. This unit equips learners to meet quality standards in environmental protection and (a) minimize how their operations (processes etc.) negatively affect the environment (i.e. cause adverse changes to air, water, or land); (b) comply with applicable laws, regulations, and other environmentally oriented requirements, and (c) continually improve in the above.

  • Explain the environmental impacts an organisation’s activities can have on the environment

  • Explain how the environmental impacts of an organisation’s activities can be measured

  • Plan measures to control the impacts of an organisation’s activities on the environment

  • Create a register of the environmental aspects of an organisation

Workshop 2b:

Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Determining Control

The purpose of this unit is to enable learners to understand Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Determining Controls and how these fit into a management system. The unit enables the learner to understand the hierarchy or control and embeds critical skills in assessing the quality of risk assessments.

  • Explain the importance of hazard identification in an organisation

  • Explain the importance of Risk Assessment in an organisation

  • Explain the importance of determining controls to minimise the impact and likelihood of incidents and accidents 

  • Identify the levels in the “hierarchy of control”

  • Apply the hierarchy of control to a situation in which risks have been identified

  • Critically review a risk assessment produced in an organisation

Workshop 3:

Organisational Compliance with Legislation and Regulation

The purpose of this unit is to enable learners to understand the importance of legal compliance for organisations. The unit builds on the understanding of health and safety and environmental impacts by exploring in detail the legal aspects and compliance issues facing organisations.

  • Understand the importance of legal, regulatory and other compliances for an organisation

  • Understand the legal, regulatory and other obligations of an organisation 

  • Complete a compliance check for the legal, regulatory and other obligations of an organisation

  • Plan the evaluation of an organisation’s compliance with legal regulatory and other requirements

Workshop 4:

 Documenting Organisational Procedures

The purpose of this unit is to enable learners to understand the importance of documenting organisational procedures.

By the end of the session the learner will be able to:

  • Explain what is meant by the term "Procedures"

  • Differentiate between “Policies” and “Procedures”

  • Explain the importance of procedures within an organisation

  • Create a process or procedure for an organisation that is consistent with an organisation’s policies, goals and other standards

  • Collate and categorise a list of organisational procedures for inclusion in a procedures manual

Workshop 5:

Principles of Non Conformity in an Organisation

The purpose of this unit is to enable learners to understand the importance of documenting organisational procedures.

  • Explain what is meant by the term “non-conformity” in the context of organisational policies and procedures

  • Explain why on-conformity can cause difficulties for organisations

  • Complete a non-conformity report

  • Create recommendations for organisational non-compliance for corrective and preventive action

Workshop 6:

Measuring Improvement within an Organisation

The purpose of this unit is to enable learners to understand the importance of developing and continually improving organisations through analysis of performance trends, improvements meetings and setting improvement objectives.

  • Explain the importance of continual improvement for an organisation

  • Explain the use of trend analysis in monitoring organisational improvement

  • Analyse trends in organisational activity

  • Plan a management meeting to review organisational improvement

  • Collate evidence of improvement and lack of improvement to inform a management review meeting

  • Create SMART organisational improvement objectives

  • Create targets that are designed to deliver organisational improvement

  • Use organisational improvement objectives to create an action plan that will deliver improvements for an organisation

Workshop 7:

Understanding Personal Roles and Responsibilities in an Organisation

Unit Number: 2942
Unit Level: 2
Credit Vale: 1

The purpose of this unit is to enable learners to understand their role and personal responsibility within an organisation and why it is important that their work complies with organisational policies and procedures.

By the end of the session the learner will be able to:

  • Identify the organisational policies that govern and guide the work of a specific role in an organisation. 

  • Describe an organisational policy and how it governs and guides actions an organisation

  • Outline an individual job role and the contribution it makes to the success of the organisation

  • State  individual responsibilities with regard to health and safety within the organisation

  • Describe individual responsibilities with regard to ensuring quality of  work

  • Describe individual  responsibilities with regard to the environmental aspects of the organisation

  • State individual  responsibilities with regard to compliance with legal, regulatory and other requirements appropriate to the role
