Introduction
This course will provide staff with a greater understanding and appreciation of good health and safety practice on repair and maintenance contracts. Also covers Contractor practice and the expectations on repair, maintenance, refurbishment and modernisation contracts.
Course Details
This course is delivered in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Cymru.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course participants will be able to:
- Appreciate the relevant health and safety legislation impacting on maintenance and repair contracts and the framework for effective health and safety practice
- Understand the rights, roles and responsibilities of parties in ensuring safe working practices on schemes and the expectations which fall on housing officers, client, contractor and tenants
- Be provided with a means of organising safe working practices on maintenance and repair schemes and principles of control within and around premises
- Identify hazards on maintenance activities and accident statistics
- Have an overview of safe working practices taking on board consideration of COSHH, work and equipment, tools, regulations, manual handling, physical and psychological hazards, electrical work, asbestos, fire hazards, working at height, welfare requirements, first aid etc.
- Be able to collate accident reports - RIDDOR and incident investigation and recording
- Be able to apply effective health and safety working practices on maintenance and repair activities in premises - using case studies

This course is suitable for technical and maintenance officers, contract officers, estate managers, tenant liaison officers and tenant representatives.
